Le guitariste, Guillaume Gibert, est de retour au disque et nous ne pouvons en être que satisfait, tant cet artiste porte haut la gloire de son instrument. Pour son nouvel enregistrement intitulé "Iberia", notre musicien propose "Variaciones sobre Un Tema de Sor" de Miguel Llobet (1878-1938). Ce dernier fut un "grand virtuose et disciple de Francisco Tarrega, le fondateur de la technique moderne de la guitare. Ami d’Albéniz, Llobet fréquente Debussy et De Falla", précise Guillaume Gibert. L’œuvre suivante est justement signée Isaac Albéniz (1860-1909). Il s’agit de quatre pièces pour piano arrangées pour guitare (Cordoba, Sevilla, Mallorca, Torre Bermeja) inspirées de lieux espagnols célèbres. Le troisième compositeur, achevant ce parcours musical , n’est autre que Joaquin Rodrigo (1901-1999), avec "Tres Piezas Espanolas" (Fandango, Passacaglia, Zapateado) et "Invocacion y Danza". "Peut-être, à mes yeux, le plus grand chef-d’œuvre de Rodrigo, souligne Guillaume Gibert. La version présentée ici a été entièrement révisée à partir du manuscrit de l’œuvre. Elle est basée sur une citation de l’Amour Sorcier de De Falla et en reprend l’univers fantastique et pittoresque : les vicissitudes du fantôme de l’amant d’une gitane andalouse, qui vient la hanter pour l’empêcher d’en aimer un autre. J’ai voulu, à travers ce programme, rendre hommage à ces trois compositeurs qui représentent pour moi la quintessence de la musique ibérique." Avec ses qualités d’interprète de plus en plus affinées (rigueur, finesse, expressivité, virtuosité) Guillaume Gibert nous livre un des plus beaux disques consacrés à la musique classique pour guitare de ces dernières années, dans une prise de son exemplaire et vers lequel nous reviendrons souvent.

He was a “great virtuoso and disciple of Francisco Tarrega, the founder of the modern technique of the guitar. A friend of Albéniz, Llobet frequented Debussy and De Falla,” states Guillaume Gibert. The following work is aptly by Albéniz (1860-1909). It is four pieces for piano arranged for guitar (Cordoba, Sevilla, Mallorca, Torre Bermeja) inspired by famous Spanish places. The third composer, which concludes this musical journey is none other than Joaquin Rodrigo (1901-1999), with “Tres Piezas Espanolas” (Fandango, Passacaglia, Zapateado) and “Invocacion y Danza.” “Perhaps, in my eyes, the greatest masterpiece by Rodrigo,” stresses Guillaume Gibert. “The version presented here has been entirely revised based on the manuscript of the work. It is based on a quote from Love the Magician by De Falla and captures its fantastic and picturesque universe: the vicissitudes of the ghost of the lover for an Andalusian gypsy, who comes to haunt her in order to stop her from falling in love with someone else. I wanted, via this program, to pay homage to these three composers who represent for me the quintessence of Iberian music.” With his interpretive qualities that are more and more refined (rigor, finesse, expressivity, virtuosity), Guillaume Gibert here offers us one of the most beautiful discs devoted to classical music for the guitar of the past few years, in an exemplary sound recording to which we will return often.
