« Furioso » est un album incandescent où le contre ténor Xavier Sabata, accompagné par Le Concert de l’Hostel Dieu sous la direction de Franck Emmanuel Comte, traverse les multiples visages d’Orlando, ce héros déchiré né de l’imagination de Ludovico Ariosto (1474-1533). Puisant dans un vaste corpus baroque avec notamment Nicola Porpora, Joseph Fux, Georg Friedrich Haendel, Antonio Vivaldi, Agostino Steffani, le programme recompose un portrait psychologique intense, où la fureur, l’égarement amoureux, la bravoure et la folie s’enchaînent comme autant d’éclats d’une âme en crise. Xavier Sabata, dont la voix sombre et ductile excelle dans les affects extrêmes, incarne un Orlando tour à tour noble, halluciné, implorant ou vengeur. Autour de lui, le Concert de l’Hostel Dieu déploie un continuo nerveux, des couleurs instrumentales ciselées et une énergie dramatique qui propulsent chaque scène comme un fragment d’opéra miniature. Drawing from a vast Baroque repertoire—including works by Nicola Porpora, Joseph Fux, Georg Friedrich Händel, Antonio Vivaldi, and Agostino Steffani—the program reconstructs an intense psychological portrait, where fury, romantic bewilderment, bravery, and madness follow one another like so many flashes of a soul in crisis.
