Walter Piston (1894-1976) avec sa Symphonie N°7 datant de 1960 et prix Pulitzer l’année suivante en 1961, Morton Gould (1913-1996) avec Stringmusic de 1993 pour un prix Pulitzer décerné en 1995, et Howard Hanson (1896-1981) avec la Symphonie N°4 Op.34 intitulée « Requiem », datant de 1943 et prix Pulitzer en 1944. Ce programme ambitieux est ici défendu avec maestria, souffle et probité par l’Orchestre Symphonique de l’Oregon que dirige Carlos Kalmar. Un voyage musical en terre américaine pour découvrir les grandes figures de la musique contemporaine du XXème siècle, et partager un moment d’histoire en savourant une initiative éditoriale particulièrement bienvenue.

Three American composers are to be heard on this remarkable CD. Three musicians for three works that won the famous Pulitzer Prize. Walter Piston (1894-1976) with his Symphony Nº7 dating from 1960 and which won the Pulitzer Prize the next year in 1961, Morton Gould (1913-1996) with Stringmusic from 1993 for a Pulitzer Prize awarded in 1995, and Howard Hanson (1896-1981) with the Symphony Nº4 Opus.34 entitled “Requiem” dating from 1943 and winner of the Pulitzer Prize in 1944. This ambitious program is here brought to life with great skill, breadth and probity by the Symphonic Orchestra of Oregon that Carlos Kalmar directs. A musical voyage on American land in order to discover great figures of contemporary music of the 20th century, and to share a moment in history while savoring a release that is particularly welcome.
