Voici une nouvelle production discographique provenant du Canada aussi enthousiasmante que celle publiée le mois dernier intitulée « American Rapture » (voir Opus HD N°163). Cette fois il ne s’agit pas de musique symphonique ou concertante mais de musique de chambre. Le Quatuor à cordes Jupiter propose trois compositeurs, avec des premières mondiales au disque. L’honneur de débuter le programme est donné à Pierre Jalbert, compositeur américain, né en 1967, titulaire du prix de Rome, et son Quintette pour piano en quatre mouvements, datant de 2017. Steven Stucky (1949-2016) et son Quatuor pour piano de 2005, poursuivent, avant la Fantaisie pour Quintette pour piano du compositeur australien Carl Vine, né en 1954. Pour terminer cette « promenade » musicale, nous revenons à Pierre Jalbert et son œuvre « Secret Alchemy » pour violon, alto, violoncelle et piano composée en 2012 et se déclinant en quatre mouvements. Le Quatuor à cordes Jupiter, accompagné par la pianiste Bernadette Harvey, offre ici un parcours musical fascinant, donnant aux partitions abordées une incarnation véritable sans de départir d’une rigueur d’exécution indispensable. Bref, un nouvel enregistrement que l’on s’empressera de se procurer, notamment pour la découverte de compositeurs méconnus.

Here is a new discographic production out of Canada that incites as much enthusiasm as the one issued last month called “American Rapture” (see Opus HD Nº163). This time it is not symphonies or concerti but chamber music. The Jupiter String Quartet here proposes three composers, with world premieres to boot. The honors at the start of the program are given to Pierre Jalbert, an American composer, born in 1967, and who received the Rome prize, and his Quintet for Piano in Four Movements, dating from 2017. Steven Stucky (1949-2016) and his Quartet for Piano in 2005 follow, then the Fantasy for Quintet for Piano by the Australian composer Carl Vine, born in 1954. To conclude this musical “promenade,” we return to Pierre Jalbert and his work “Secret Alchemy” for violin, viola, cello and piano composed in 2012 and is composed of four movements. The Jupiter String Quartet, accompanied by the pianist Bernadette Harvey, here offers a fascinating musical journey, giving the works played real mastery without leaving behind the indispensable rigor of execution. In short, here is a new recording that needs to be listened to right away, most notably in order to discover little-known composers.
