Voici une série d’arrangements d’œuvres de compositeurs russes célèbres. Ce « Rendez-vous » avec Prokofiev, Rachmaninov, Chostakovitch, Scriabine et Gubaidulina propose un programme placé sous l’égide du Saxophone que défend avec maestria Eva van Grinsven, et qui ne signe pas moins de trois arrangements. Le premier, pour saxophone alto et piano, est celui des « Cinq Mélodies » Op.35 de Sergei Prokofiev, suivi par l’arrangement pour violon, saxophone ténor et piano du « Trio pour piano N°1 » Op.8 de Dimitri Chostakovitch. Chostakovitch que l’on retrouve dans l’arrangement pour saxophone alto, violon et piano des « Cinq Pièces ». Le premier arrangement de l’enregistrement est signé David Christobal Litago. Il propose « How Peaceful » de Sergei Rachmaninov pour Saxophone alto et piano. Combinaison instrumentale que nous retrouvons dans quatre autres pièces de ce dernier, « In my Garden at night », « To her », « Daisies » et « dreams ». David Christobal Litago signe également l’arrangement pour ténor saxophone et piano de « Romance » d’Alexander Scriabine. Le « Duo Sonata » de Sofia Gubaidulina est arrangé pour deux saxophones baryton par Michael Couper. Le jeu de la saxophoniste Eva van Grinsven possède une palette expressive aux nuances infinies, sans lourdeur ni agressivité. Dans une sorte de souffle immense, elle rend un hommage personnel à ces cinq compositeurs russes, accompagnée par Helena Basilova au piano, Maria Milstein au violon et Lars Niederstraser au saxophone. Un SACD passionnant qui offre avant tout un nouveau visage aux partitions abordées.

Here is a series of arrangements of works by famous Russian composers. This “rendez-vous” with Prokofiev, Rachmaninov, Chostakovitch, Scriabine, and Gubaidulina proposes a program under the aegis of the saxophone, whom Eva van Grinsven defends with mastery, and who signs no less than three arrangements. The first, for saxophone alto and piano, is “Five Melodies” Op.35 by Sergei Prokofiev, followed by an arrangement for violin, saxophone tenor and piano called “Trio for Piano N°1” Op.8 by Dimitri Chostakovitch. We refind Chostakovitch in the arrangement for saxophone alto, violin and piano in “Five Pieces.” The first arrangement of the recording is signed David Christobal Litago. He proposes “How Peaceful” by Sergei Rachmaninov for saxophone alto and piano. We find the same instrumental combination in four other pieces by Rachmaninov, “In My Garden at Night,” “To Her,” “Daisies,” and “Dreams.” David Christobal Litago also signed the arrangement for tenor saxophone and piano called “Romance” by Alexander Scriabine. The “Duo Sonata” by Sofia Gubaidulina is arranged for two baritone saxophones by Michael Couper. The playing by saxophonist Eva van Grinsven possesses an expressive palate of infinite nuances, without forcing or aggressiveness. Taking our breath away, she pays a personal homage to these three Russian composers, accompanied by Helena Basilova on piano, Maria Milstein on violin, and Lars Niederstraser on saxophone. Here is a passionate SACD that, above all, offers us a new face on the scores played.
