Autour de quatre compositeurs venus du nord, la Norvège, la Suède, la Finlande, c’est un véritable panorama de la mélodie nordique que propose le programme de cet enregistrement. Jean-Sibelius (1865-1957) avec « Norden » Op.90 N°1, « Six Songs » Op.50, « Skogsraet » JS 171, Edvard Grieg (1843-1907) avec « Six Songs » Op.48, « En svane » » Op.25 N°2, Wilhelm Stenhammar (1871-1927) avec « I skogen », « Four Songs » Op.26, « Flikan kom ifran sin alsklings mote » Op.4 N°1, Hugo Alfven (1872-1960) avec « Skogen » Op.28 N°7. La soprano Camilla Tilling, admirablement soutenu par le piano inspiré de Paul Ravinius, trouve ici un répertoire à sa mesure. Avec un sens indéniable de la « dramaturgie » des textes abordés, elle parvient à sublimer la poésie inhérente à chaque mélodie, portant cette dernière au sommet d’une expression d’une délicatesse à la fois subtile et prégnante. Nous sommes là, certes devant une œuvre musicale, mais également devant une œuvre picturale, vivante et passionnée que le timbre enchanteur de la voix de Camilla Tilling édifie avec ferveur et émotion. Un SACD de musique vocale incontournable.

The program of this recording, around four composers from Norway, Sweden, and Finland, is a true panorama of northern melody. The soprano Camilla Tilling, admirably backed by the inspired piano of Paul Ravinis, here finds a repertory that becomes her. With an undeniable sense of drama in the texts sung, she manages to sublimate the poetry inherent in each melody, bringing each to the summit of expressive delicacy that is both subtle and rich. Before us is most certainly a musical work, but also a living and passionate pictorial work that the magic tone of voice of Camilla Tilling edifies with fervor and emotion. Here is an SACD of vocal music that is a must-have.
