Certains compositeurs sont dominants dans ce répertoire, d’autres n’ont transmis à la postérité qu’une poignée de compositions. Réunis dans le cadre de ce programme, ces œuvres donnent l’aperçu d’un paysage musical diversifié, passionnément riche et créatif ». Et ce sont bien cette passion et cette « créativité » que l’on retrouve dans le jeu des artistes en présence, placé sous le signe d’une inspiration de chaque instant que Rachel Podger tire de son instrument. Sous son archet, les œuvres de Frescobaldi, Uccelini, Gabrieli ou Marini notamment trouvent des coloris flamboyants comme gorgés de soleil. Avec une prise de son à l’équilibre instrumental parfait, ce SACD est un des bijoux de cette nouvelle année.

In another new release of baroque music, this “Perla Barocca,” has been concocted by the violinist Rachel Podger, accompanied for the occasion by Marcin Swiatkiewicz on the keyboard and organ and Daniele Caminiti on the theorbo. “The works presented here,” states Mark Seow, “constitute sublime examples of the beginning of Italian baroque. Certain composers are dominant in this repertory, others transmitted to posterity only a handful of compositions. Collected in the framework of this program, these works give an idea of a diversified musical landscape that is passionately rich and creative.” And it is precisely this passion and this “creativity” that we find in the playing of the artists in presence, placed under the sign of the constant inspiration Rachel Podger gets out of her instrument. Under her bow, the works, most notably, of Frescobaldi, Uccelini, Gabrieli or Marini find flamboyant colors as if filled with sunshine.
