La musique pour orchestre de Ravel c’est la « révélation de l’idée musicale sous son angle le plus lumineux, sans excès, sans surcharge ; c’est diversifier les couleurs et faire ressortir l’individualité de chacune ; d’où l’extrême attention portée aux divers groupes de percussion, les nuances subtiles des bois, les glissandos, les trémolos, les cordes divisées » souligne Michel Parouty. Here is another release in the series Reminiscences from the label Praga Digitals regrouping the legendary recordings which Pierre Monteux devoted to Maurice Ravel, with the Rapsodie Espagnole, the Pavane pour une Infante Défunte, and the complete ballet Daphnis et Chloé in which the Chorus of the Royal Opera of Covent Garden and Douglas Robinson participated. Ravel’s music for orchestra is “the revelation of the musical idea under the most luminous angle, without excess, without extra weight; it is to diversify colors and bring out the individuality of each; whence the extreme attention paid to the various groups of percussion, the subtle nuances of the woodwinds, the glissandos, the tremolos, the various strings,” underlines Michel Parouty.
