Compositeur, organiste, improvisateur, Jean-Pierre Leguay, né en 1939, étudie notamment avec les organistes André Marchal et Gaston Litaize, puis au Conservatoire de Paris avec Simone Plé-Caussade pour l’écriture, Rolande Falcinelli pour l’orgue et Olivier Messiaen pour la composition. Il obtient le Premier prix d’orgue et d’improvisation à l’unanimité en 1966 et le diplôme de composition en 1970. Après avoir occupé le poste d’organiste titulaire du grand orgue de l’église Notre-Dame-des-Champs à Paris de 1961 à 1984, Jean-Pierre Leguay est nommé en 1985 organiste co-titulaire des grandes orgues de la cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris aux côtés d’Yves Devernay, d’Olivier Latry et de Philippe Lefebvre, succédant à Pierre Cochereau et devenant après Louis Vierne le second organiste titulaire de cette tribune atteint de cécité. Il est nommé organiste émérite de la cathédrale en 2016 lorsqu’il laisse sa place à Vincent Dubois. Aujourd’hui le label Cybele Records nous invite à découvrir son œuvre pour piano, avec cinq partitions (Momenti (2022), Envol (2020), Chant pour Gabriel (2015), Chant pour Inès (2017), Allume l’aube dans la source (2010-2012)) et la pianiste Sabine Auer. Dans une atmosphère envoûtante, baignées de sonorités à la fois profondes et éthérées, ces pièces semblent être le reflet d’une sérénité avide de partage, que l’on gardera en mémoire longtemps... avec émotion.

He obtained the first prize in organ and improvisation in 1966 and the composition degree in 1970. After having held the post of tenured organist of the great organ of the church Notre-Dame-des-Champs in Paris between 1961 and 1984, Jean-Pierre Leguay was in 1985 nominated to the co-tenured organist of the great organ of the cathedral Notre-Dame de Paris along with Yves Devernay, Olivier Latry and Philippe Lefebvre, succeeding Pierre Cochereau and becoming after Louis Vierne the second tenured organist who was blind and rose to this tribune. He was named organist emeritus of the cathedral in 2016 when Vincent Dubois took over his position. And now the label Cybele Records allows us to discover his piano works, with five scores ((Momenti (2022), Envol (2020), Chant pour Gabriel (2015), Chant pour Inès (2017), Allume l’aube dans la source (2010-2012)) and the pianist Sabine Auer. In an enchanting atmosphere bathed in sounds that are both deep and ethereal, these pieces seem to be the reflection of a serenity that wants to be shared, that one will remember for a long time… with emotion.
