Le Concerto pour violon et orchestre en ré mineur Op.47 de Jean-Sibelius (1865-1957) datant de 1905, dans sa révision, fut créé la même année par Richard Strauss à Berlin. "La partie soliste exige une technique impeccable et récuse toute virtuosité vaine et ne s’impose qu’au prix d’une recherche permanente de l’expression sobre et justement calculée" (François-René Tranchefort). Le Concerto pour violon et orchestre Op.33 de Carl Nielsen (1865-1931) pour lequel, toujours selon le musicologue français, "il lui fut reproché une certaine disparité stylistique : ses deux grandes parties, en réalité, offrent des mouvements lents d’un intérêt musical plus soutenus, et d’une expressivité plus évidente que les deux allegros, assez extérieurs" (FRT). Johan Dalene, soutenu par le Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, que dirige John Storgards, met sa virtuosité lumineuse au service d’un discours musical inspiré de bout en bout d’un programme exigeant. The young violinist Johan Dalene offers us, once again, a remarkable album with two famous compositions from the north. The Concerto for Violin and Orchestra in D minor Op.47 by Jean Sibelius (1865-1957) dating from 1905, in its revised form, was premiered the same year by Richard Strauss in Berlin. “The solo part demands impeccable technique and bars all vein virtuosity, and is called for only after permanent research into its sober and justly calculated expression” (François-René Tranchefort). The Concerto for Violin and Orchestra Op.33 by Carl Nielsen (1865-1931) for which, again according to the same musicologist, “he was attacked for a certain stylistic disparity: its two long parts, in reality, offer slow movements of sustained musical interest, and for a more obvious expressivity of the two allegros, which are rather extraneous” (FRT). Johan Dalene, backed by the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, that John Storgards conducts, offers his luminous virtuosity in service of a musical discourse that is inspired from beginning to end of a demanding program. A must-have SACD.
