Le compositeur finlandais, Sebastian Fagerlund, né en 1972, revient au disque avec, une nouvelle fois, des œuvres puissantes, voire magistrales. Deux partitions dans lesquelles l’espace est savamment utilisé pour une dimension musicale unique, porteuse d’images tangibles. L’imagination est alors fortement sollicitée pour aboutir à une expérience sonore sans commune mesure. Il y a donc "Nomade" pour violoncelle et orchestre de 2018, fruit d’une commande de l’Orchestre NDR Elbphilharmonie de Hambourg et l’Orchestre symphonique de la Radio finlandaise. En huit mouvements, ce concerto pour violoncelle fut créé en 2019 avec le soliste Nicolas Altstaedt, dédicataire de l’œuvre. Puis "Water Atlas" pour orchestre, datant de 2017-2018, également fruit d’une commande du Royal Concertgebouw d’Amsterdam, de l’Orchestre symphonique de la BBC et de l’Orchestre symphonique de la Radio finlandaise. Le Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, sous la direction de Hannu Lintu, prend toute la mesure de ces partitions et fait, de ce SACD, une parution essentielle.

The Finnish composer, Sebastian Fagerlund, born in 1972, returns to recordings with, once again, works that are powerful, even majestic. Two scores in which space is skillfully used for a unique musical dimension, full of tangible images. The imagination is strongly called upon in order to attain a sonic experience without equal. There is this “Nomad” for cello and orchestra from 2018, the fruit of a commission from the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra of Hamburg and the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra. In eight movements, this concerto for cello was premiered in 2019 with the soloist Nicolas Altstaedt, to whom the work is dedicated. Then “Water Atlas” for orchestra, dating from 2017-2018, also the fruit of a commission from the Royal Concertgebouw of Amsterdam, the Symphonic Orchestra of the BBC and the Finnish Radio Symphonic Orchestra.
