In this second volume of the “Mendelssohn Project” from the Dogma Chamber Orchestra, the youthful symphonies IV in C minor, V in B flat major, VI in E flat major, as well as the Concerto for Violin and Orchestra in D minor are present. “Precociously talented for music, benefiting from an enviable social situation (he was the son of a rich Jewish banker), a great traveler, highly cultivated and demonstrating an uncommon talent in several artistic domains (painting, among them), Mendelssohn exercised a very strong influence on the musical life of his time: rediscovered by J.S. Bach (to whom he avowed a veritable cult), by Handel, model interpretations of the symphonies by Beethoven and the operas by Mozart.” (François-René Tranchefort). With ever-abundant fervor doubled by narrative self-evidence, the Dogma Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Mikhail Gurewitsch, once again offers a passionate musical discourse, on the same level as the genius of a German composer who is often disdained.
