Le label suédois BIS est décidément à la pointe de l’innovation en matière d’édition discographie, en proposant notamment un vaste panorama de compositions nouvelles, un packaging respectueux de l’environnement et surtout un véritable engagement passionné pour la musique qu’il diffuse. Il mériterait plus d’une fois d’être élu meilleur label de l’année. En voici encore un exemple avec ce SACD offrant la possibilité de découvrir « Clytemnestra », l’œuvre de Rhian Samuel, né en 1944 pour soprano et orchestre. Cette dernière fut composée en 1994 d’après le récit d’Eschyle relatant la mort d’Agamemnon. Elle est ici rendue dans sa version anglaise faite par le compositeur. Le programme est complété par les Ruckert-Lieder de Gustav Mahler et les Altenberg Lieder d’Alban Berg. La soprano Ruby Hughes déploie une puissance dramatique poussée à l’extrême dans « Clytemnestra », tout en distillant un chant d’une grande pureté. Les Lieder de Mahler et de Berg sont tout aussi passionnants pour un enregistrement maitrisé et fascinant à la fois.

The Swedish label BIS is decidedly at the forefront of innovation insofar as discographic releases by proposing a vast panorama of new compositions, packaging that is respectful of the environment and above all a real passionate engagement for the music it issues. It has more than one time merited being elected best label of the year. Here yet again is an example with this SACD that offers the possibility of discovering “Clytemnestra,” a work by Rhian Samuel, born in 1944, for soprano and orchestra. It was composed in 1994 based on the story by Eschyle that relates the death of Agamemnon, and is here rendered in its English-language version done by the composer. The program is completed by the Ruckert-Lieder by Gustav Mahler and the Altenberg Lieder by Alban Berg. The soprano Ruby Hughes deploys a dramatic power pushed to the extreme in “Clytemnestra,” all the while distilling singing of great purity. The Lieder by Mahler and Berg are just as passionate on a recording that is both masterful and fascinating.
