Here is a recital devoted to Franz Schubert which is not without interest, and by its interpretive choices will rub certain purists the wrong way. For, in it we are before a vocal summation whose impetus, and dramatic playing, is omnipresent. And it is this the heart of this remarkable SACD. The soprano Anna-Lucia Richter opens the doors of her vision with fifteen lieder by Schubert, most notably “An den Mond” D.259, “Der Zwerg” D.771, “Lied der Mignon” D. 877, and “Heimwerth” D.456. With a tone which is both clear and warm, Richter transmits passion rooted in a devotion at all times. All here seems incandescent, as if brought to a boil in a musical flow that is most vibrant. Gerold Huber on the piano and the participation of Matthias Schorn on the clarinet for the lied “Der Hirt auf dem Felsen” D.965 are major pluses for a release that is full of life. This is one SACD to discover right away.
