Après un enregistrement remarquable consacré aux œuvres pour piano seul d’Andrzej et Roxanna Panufnik (voir Opus HD N°118), la pianiste Clare Hammond se penche sur « l’Etude pianistique » en tant que genre musical, avec un programme original comprenant quatre œuvres de quatre compositeurs différents. Tout d’abord, Serge Lyapunov (1859-1924) avec trois pièces tirées de ses 12 Etudes d’Exécution Transcendante, puis Unsuk Chin (né en 1961) et ses Etudes pour piano dont la composition s’étale de 1995 à 2003. Vient ensuite le compositeur ukrainien Karol Szymanowski (1882-1937) et ses 12 Etudes Op.33, puis pour terminer ce beau parcours, Nikolai Kapustin (né en 1937 et ses Cinq Etudes dans différents intervalles Op.68. Avec énergie, conviction et ferveur, Clare Hammond défend ces pages dans un flot musical des plus inspirés. La virtuosité est ici au service de la musique et ne fait que renforcer l’engagement rigoureux d’une artiste exigeante. Un SACD de premier plan.
