Le jeune ensemble La Nuova Musica, mené par la direction inspirée de David Bates, propose un voyage musical au cœur de « La Tragédie » puisée dans les oratorios de la fin du 17ème siècle. Autour de trois compositeurs emblématiques, le programme s’ouvre avec la Symphonie pour le Graduel en ré majeur de Sébastien de Brossard (1655-1730) ajouté à la Missa gaudeamus Omnes de François Cosset. Vient ensuite Le Reniement de Saint Pierre de Marc-Antoine Charpentier (1643-1704) avec notamment le ténor Nicolas Scott dans le rôle de Petrus, le baryton Jonathan Mc Govern dans celui de Jésus et la basse Timothy Dickinson dans Historicus. Puis Sébastien de Brossard de nouveau avec la Symphonie pour le Graduel en sol mineur ajouté à la Missa S. Antonii Padovani de Bartholomeo Baldrati. Le Sacrificium Abrahae H.402 de Charpentier est également proposé avec la soprano Mhairi Lawson dans le rôle de Sara, le ténor Simon Wall dans celui d’Abraham, le ténor Nicholas Scott dans Isaac et la soprano Alice Gribbin dans Juvenis. Brossard revient une dernière fois avec la Sonate en Trio en ré majeur, et c’est Giacomo Carissimi (1605-1674) qui achève ce riche parcours musical avec Historia di Jephté chantée par la soprano Sophie Junker et le ténor Robert Murray. David Bates et La Nuova Musica font preuve d’une verve, d’une passion de chaque instant, qui n’appelle que des éloges. Un grand SACD de musique baroque.

The young ensemble La Nuova Musica, under the inspired direction of David Bates, proposes a musical voyage to the heart of “Tragedy” as found in oratorios of the end of the 17th century. Devoted to three emblematic composers, the program opens with the Symphony pour le Graduel in D major by Sébastien de Brossard (1655-1730) then the Missa gaudaemus Omnes by François Cosset(c.1610 - c.1673). Next comes Le Reniement de Saint Pierre by Marc-Antoine Charpentier (1643-1704) with most notably the tenor Nicolas Scott in the role of Petrus, the baritone Jonathan McGovern in that of Jesus and the bass Timothy Dickenson as Historicus. Then Sébastien de Brossard again with the Symphonie pour le Graduel in G minor and the Missa S. Antonnii Padovani by Bartholomeo Baldrati. The Sacrificium Abrahae H.402 by Charpentier is also proposed with the soprano Mhairi Lawson in the role of Sara, the tenor Simon Wall in that of Abraham, the tenor Nicolas Scott as Isaac and the soprano Alice Gribbin as Juvenis. Brossard returns a last time with the Sonata in Trio in D major, and it is Giacomo Carissimi (1605-1674) who concludes this rich musical journey with Historia di Jephté sung by the soprano Sophie Junker and the tenor Robert Murray. David Bates and La Nuova Nusica display constant verve and passion that can only inspire praise. A great SACD of baroque music.
