Les instruments à vent sont à l’honneur dans ce remarquable enregistrement SACD et Blu Ray pure audio, tant au niveau musical que sonore. Quatre compositeurs y sont représentés. Paul Hindemith (1895-1963) avec « Konzertmusik » de 1926 et sa symphonie datant de 1951, Arnold Schoenberg (1874-1951) avec « Thème et Variations » Op.43a datant de 1943, Igor Strawinsky (1882-1971) et sa fameuse symphonie pour instruments à vent de 1921, révisée en 1947, ainsi que Rolf Wallin né en 1957 et sa composition « Changes » datant de 1984. Toutes ces œuvres offrent une cohérence à un programme, certes exigeant, mais qui ne manque ni de beauté, ni d’émotion. Grâce notamment à l’engagement du Royal Norwegian Navy Band que dirige de mains de maître Ingar Bergby et à une prise de son, une nouvelle fois exemplaire, d’une rare pureté de timbres. Bref, un grand moment à ne pas manquer.

Woodwinds have the place of honor in this SACD and Blu-ray Pure Audio, which is remarkable both on the musical and sound level. Four composers are here represented. Paul Hindemith (1895-1963) with “Konzertmusic” from 1926 and his symphony dating from 1951; Arnold Schoenberg (1874-1951) with “Theme and Variations” Op.43a dating from 1943, Igor Stravinsky (1882-1971) and his famous symphony for woodwinds dating from 1921, revised in 1947; as well as Rolf Wallin, born in 1957, and his composition “Changes” dating from 1984. Thanks notably to the commitment of the Royal Norwegian Navy Band that Ingar Bergby directs masterfully, and a sound recording which is once again exemplary and of rare tonal purity, all of these works offer coherence to a program which is most certainly demanding, but which lacks neither beauty nor emotion. In short, this is a great moment that shouldn’t be missed.
