Voici probablement le meilleur volet de l’intégrale des symphonies d’Anton Bruckner par Marek Janowski. La Symphonie N°2, ici dans sa version de 1877 « fut écrite principalement à Vienne à partir de 1871, et terminée à Saint-Florian en septembre 1872, précise François-René Tranchefort. Des remaniements de détail auront lieu en 1875-1876, puis en 1877 : coupures dans chaque mouvement, et, surtout, remplacement du remarquable solo de cor achevant l’Adagio (jugé d’exécution trop difficile à l’époque !) par un solo de clarinette ». En quatre mouvements, la partition de la seconde symphonie de Bruckner trouve, sous la direction de Marek Janowski, une inspiration qui ne faiblit pas. Avec une prise de son exemplaire renforçant la puissance instrumentale aux timbres d’une rare profondeur de texture, ce SACD est un miracle d’équilibre entre espace sonore et interprétation superlative. Un grand moment !

Here is probably the best volume of the complete symphonies of Anton Bruckner by Marek Janowski. Symphony N°2, here in the 1877 version, was principally written in Vienna starting from 1871 and finished in Saint-Florian in September 1872, states François-René Tranchefort. Certain changes were made in 1875-1876, then in 1877: cuts in each movement, and above all, replacing the remarkable horn solo at the end of the Adagio (judged too hard to execute at the time) with a clarinet solo.” In four movements, the score for Bruckner’s Second Symphony finds unending inspiration under the direction of Marek Janowski. An exemplary sound recording that reinforces an instrumental power whose tones are of rare textural depth, this SACD is a miracle of balance between superlative sound and interpretation.
