Avec cet album généreux (près de 80mn) consacré à Benjamin Britten nous retrouvons la sève créatrice du jeune compositeur anglais, celle qui en fit l’un des plus grands artistes du siècle passé. L’enregistrement s’ouvre avec « Les Illuminations » Op.18 pour soprano et orchestre à cordes de 1939, puis la célèbre partition « Variations sur un thème de Frank Bridge » Op.10 pour orchestre à cordes datant de 1937. La « Sérénade » Op.31 pour ténor, cor et orchestre à cordes de 1943 offre une nouvelle fois l’exemple parfait d’un savoir faire vocal indéniable. Puis le programme s’achève avec « Now sheeps the Crimson Petal » pour ténor, cor et orchestre à cordes toujours de 1943. Tout les artistes en présence sont à saluer au même titre que la prise de son en pur DSD d’une grande finesse, ouvrant l’espace acoustique dans une perspective naturelle, sans artifices. Bref, encore une fois il s’agit d’un SACD de premier plan signé par l’Amsterdam Sinfonietta.

With this generous album (nearly 80 minutes) devoted to Benjamin Britten, we touch the young English composer’s creative sap, which made him of the greatest artists of the past century. The recording opens with “Illuminations” Op.18 for soprano and string orchestra, from 1939, then the celebrated score “Variations on a Them by Frank Bridge” Op.10 for string orchestra, dating from 1937. The “Seranade” Op.31 for tenor, horn and string orchestra, from 1943, once again offers the perfect example of his undeniable vocal savoir-faire. The program then concludes with “Now Sleeps the Crimson Petal” for tenor, horn, and string orchestra, again from 1943. All the artists here present are praiseworthy, as is the pure DSD sound recording, which is of great refinement, opening the acoustic space in a natural perspective, without artifice. In short, once again here is an SACD of the first order signed by the Amsterdam Sinfonietta.
