Voici une parution enthousiasmante qui ravira les amateurs de raretés. « La Dirindina », datant de 1715, est une farce que Domenico Scarlatti (1685-1757) devait intégrer à « Amleto », mais la censure l’en dissuada. L’histoire met en scène un vieux maître de musique, un castrat et l’élève du maître en question, la Dirindina, qui feint de s’éprendre du castrat pour se moquer de son maître. Cette satire voulait dénoncer les agissements, voire les intrigues qui régnaient alors dans le domaine de l’Opéra séria. Federico Guglielmo et son ensemble d’instruments anciens, l’Arte dell’Arco, redonnent vie à cette « pépite » irrésistible de verve et de ferveur dans laquelle notamment la soprano Marina Bartoli fait des merveilles. La suite du programme se partage entre Symphonies pour cordes et Sonates pour violon et basse continue, que le maestro-violoniste Guglielmo transcende dans un jeu brillant et inspiré. Bref, un SACD jubilatoire que l’on ne saurait ignorer.

Here is a welcome edition that will thrill music lovers who treasure rarities. “La Dirindina,” dating from 1715, is a farce that Domenico Scarlatti (1785-1757) was to have included in “Amleto,” but didn’t because of censorship. It is the story of an old music master, a castrate and the master’s student, named la Dirindina, who pretends to be taken by the castrate in order to make fun of his master. This satire’s intentions were to denounce the acts and intrigues which then reigned in the domain of opera seria. Federico Guglielmo and his group, the Arte dell’Arco, on period instruments, give new life to this nugget, irresistible in its verve and fervor, in which the soprano Marina Bartoli is marvelous. The rest of the program includes the String Symphonies and the Sonatas for Violin and Basso Continuo, that master violinist Guglielmo transcends in playing that is brilliant and inspired. In short, here is a jubilatory SACD that cannot be ignored.
