Voici la réédition SACD d’un enregistrement quadriphonique datant de 1973. Le programme est alléchant puisqu’il propose les deux Concertos pour Violoncelle et la Suite pour Violoncelle et Orchestre de Camille Saint-Saëns. Ce dernier, souligne avec pertinence Franz Steiger dans le livret d’accompagnement, « fut à la fois poète et auteur dramatique, astronome, homme de science, caricaturiste, pédagogue et journaliste. Il se fit également un nom en tant que musicologue grâce, entre autres, à sa collaboration à « l’édition complète » des œuvres de Rameau et de Gluck. Nous serions bien en peine de trouver pareil esprit universel, dans quelque endroit du monde, au début du 21ème siècle ! ». Le Concerto pour Violoncelle N°1 Op.33 ne comporte qu’un seul mouvement, alors que le suivant Op.119 en comporte deux. Le présent enregistrement propose également l’Allegro appassionato pour violoncelle et orchestre Op.43. Christine Walesvska et Eliahu Inbal trouvaient ici une entente parfaite et c’est avec un bonheur retrouvé que nous redécouvrons un jeu à la fois lumineux, coloré, passionné. Bref, une réussite absolue magnifiée par un remastering DSD des grands jours. A ne pas manquer.

Here is an SACD reissue of a quadraphonic recording dating from 1973. The program is tempting in that it proposes the two Concerti for Cello and the Suite for Cello and Orchestra by Camille Saint-Saëns, who, as Franz Steiger points out in the accompanying brochure, “was both a poet and dramatic author, astronomer, man of science, caricaturist, teacher, and journalist. He also made a name for himself as a musicologist thanks, most notably, to his collaboration on the “complete edition” of the works of Rameau and of Gluck. It would be hard to find a more universal spirit anywhere in the world in this early 21st century!” The Concerto for Cello N°1 Op.33 is made up of only one movement, whereas the following, Op.119, is made up of two. The present recording also proposes the Allegro Appassionato for Cello and Orchestra Op.43. Christine Walesvska and Eliahu Inbal work well together, and we are overjoyed to rediscover playing that is luminous, colored, and passionate all at the same time. In short, this is an absolute success, magnified by a DSD remastering of the highest order. Not to be missed.
