Ces différents ballets sont des performances historiques datant de 1971 à 1983. Ce premier volume voit des exécutions de Maya Plisetskaya, Ekaterina Maximova, Marina Kondratiyev et Maris Liepa, Nadezhda Pavlova et Vyacheslav Gordeeev, Vladimir Vasiliev, Tatyana Terekhova et Nikolay Kovmir, Nina Timofeeva et Alexander Godunov etc. Il y a donc beaucoup, beaucoup de monde. Ce sont des extraits de différentes oeuvres de Tchaikovski, Prokofiev,Glazounov par exemple. C’est le problème même de ces DVD qui ne reprennent que des fragments, décomposant les oeuvres et ne restituant donc pas la totalité. On peut aimer voir ces petits moments comme des instantanés des meilleurs moments de ces artistes comme on peut détester cette atomisation, scindant le travail global d’un danseur. Au choix. Ces petits films ont été aussi captés dans des conditions fort différentes allant du passable au bon. Là peu importe leurs qualités passables car ce côté vieillot rajoute une touche nostalgique certes factice… Cela dit, un tel DVD permet de découvrir tel ou tel artiste et de poursuivre sa curiosité avec des interprétations plus complètes. En ce qui concerne Maya Plisetskaya par exemple, il y a plusieurs DVD sortis récemment.

That makes for quite a crowd. They are excerpts from various works by Tchaikovski, Prokofiev, and Glazounov, for example. The real problem with these DVDs that they only take fragments, decomposing the works and therefore not restituting them in their totality. One may like seeing these brief moments like photographs of the best moments of these dancers, or one may hate this atomization, splintering the whole work of a dancer. To each his own. These brief films have also been made in highly differing conditions, going from fairly good to good. Still, who cares about the conditions in which they were made when the old-fashioned quality of them adds a touch of nostalgia that some might be consider forced? That said, such a DVD allows us to discover various artists, then quench one’s curiosity with fuller interpretations. Insofar as Maya Plisetskaya, for example, there are several DVDs that were just recently released.
