Autre documentaire des leçons particulières et celui-ci est exceptionnel puisqu’il y a la participation exceptionnel du mari d’Yvonne Loriod : Olivier Messiaen. Ce documentaire commence par une scène extraordinaire et fort bien filmée : sous les regards d’Yvonne Loriod et d’Olivier Messiaen, un jeune pianiste Nicholas Angelich exécute un passage des 20 regards sur l’enfant Jésus. On imagine la pression qui pèse sur lui devant ses deux maîtres, son professeur de piano et le compositeur en titre. La scène est étonnante d’intensité. Née à Houilles en 1924 et morte à Saint-Denis en 2010, élève de Lazare Lévy, Marcel Ciampi, Darius Milhaud et Olivier Messiaen au Conservatoire de Paris où elle a obtenu sept Premier Prix, Yvonne Loriod débute sa carrière en 1948. Elle donne en première audition toutes les œuvres avec piano d'Olivier Messiaen à partir des Visions de l'Amen ainsi que des créations françaises ou mondiales d'œuvres de Schoenberg, Bartók, Jolivet et Boulez. En 1958, elle est professeur de piano à la Staatliche Hochschule für Musik de Karlsruhe et de 1967 à 1989, au Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris. Elle fut la seconde épouse du compositeur Olivier Messiaen (1908-1992) et a enregistré de nombreux disques, assurant la création des œuvres de son mari. Voici donc une leçon plus particulière encore car consacrée à la musicienne que l’on voit évidemment plus en compagnie d’Olivier Messiaen qu’avec ses élèves. Mais que l’on se rassure, ce n’est que justice car l’instruction est superbe et enrichissante.

This is another documentary of personal lessons, and this one is exceptional in that Yvonne Loriod’s husband, Olivier Messiaen, participates. This documentary begins with a scene that is extraordinary and very well filmed: under the watch of Yvonne Loriod and Olivier Messiaen, a young pianist, Nicholas Angelich, performs a passage from Twenty Regards on the Enfant Jesus. One can imagine the weight on him as his two masters, his piano teacher and the composer himself, watch. The scene is surprising in its intensity. Born in Houilles in 1924 and deceased in 2010, student of Lazare Lévy, Marcel Ciampi, Darius Milhaud and Olivier Messiaen at the Paris Conservatory where she obtained seven First Prizes, Yvonne Loriod began her career in 1948. She was the first to perform all of Olivier Messiaen’s piano works starting from the Visions of the Amen, as well as the French or world premiers of works by Schoenberg, Bartok, Jolivet and Boulez. In 1958, she became a piano teacher at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Karlsruhe , and from 1967 to 1989 at the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et danse in Paris. She was the second wife of composer Olivier Messiaen (1908-1992), and recorded numerous discs, including the world premiere of works by her husband. Here then is a personal lesson devoted to the musician in which we see her more in the company of Olivier Messiaen than in that of her students. But rest assured: her teachings are no less superb and enriching.
