Il est des enregistrements, comme celui-ci, qui vous réconcilient avec la musique de notre temps, renvoyant du même coup aux oubliettes nombre de tentatives sonores aseptisées et insipides que l’on nomme musique contemporaine. « Horizon 3 » est une publication du prestigieux Concertgebouw d’Amsterdam, et son troisième volume nous offre la possibilité d’entendre, de découvrir même le meilleur de la saison 2008-2009. Le chef d’orchestre Ed Spanjaard dirige la voix profonde de Christianne Stotjin dans une œuvre de Michel van der Aa intitulée « A Space of Blank » datant de 2007-2008. Œuvre forte aux réminiscences bergiennes évidentes. Otto Ketting est également présent avec « Trajecten » de 2008, dirigée par Markus Stenz. David Robertson, quant à lui, se penche sur trois partitions : « Antologia » de Tristan Keuris (1990-91), « Der Reiter auf dem Weisen Pferd » (2002) de l’immense Sofia Gubaidulina ainsi que « No Reason to panic » (2007) de Mayke Nas. Et, en effet, il n’y a aucune raison de paniquer à l’écoute de ce SACD exemplaire aux oeuvres d’une force expressive rare et envoûtante. Un grand moment !

There are recordings like this one that reconcile you with contemporary music, and make you forget about the many lifeless, insipid attempts that call themselves contemporary music. “Horizon 3” is a publication of the prestigious Amsterdam Concertgebouw, and its third volume allows us to hear, and even discover, the best of the 2008-2009 season. The conductor, Ed Spanjaard, directs the deep voice of Christianne Stotjin in the work by Michel van der Aa entitled “A Space of Blank,” dating from 2007-2008. Here is a powerful work with obvious references to Alban Berg. Otto Ketting is also on the bill with “Trajecten” from 2008, directed by Markus Stenz.
