La Mouette est bien sûr une pièce du grand dramaturge Anton Tchekov. C’est aussi, d’après cette même pièce, un ballet en deux actes composé par Rodion Shchedrin et chorégraphié et dansé par Maya Plisetskaya. Un petit reportage nous les présente en 2009 commentant ce ballet interprété en 1980. Maya Plisetskaya joue le rôle de Nina Mikhaïlovna Zarechtnaïa, la jeune comédienne qui tente de faire comprendre au public les textes modernes de Treplev. Le choix de Rodion Shchedrin est plus contestable dans sa musique très exagérément expressive. Il s’inscrit dans la tradition moderne de la musique sérielle et aléatoire tout en restant enraciné dans la culture russe. Marié à Maya Plisetskaya, il était tout « désigné » pour composer la musique… Divisé en 24 préludes polyphoniques, un postlude et trois intermèdes, l’oeuvre dénote une atmosphère morbide et tragique. Ce n’est pas la plus grande réussite du ballet. Dans la lignée de Béjart, Maya Plisetskaya fait merveille dans son exécution et le DVD ne vaut le déplacement que pour elle.
Yannick Rolandeau The Seagull is, of course, a great play by the playwright Anton Chekhov. It is also, based on the same play, a two-act ballet composed by Rodion Shchedrin, choreographed and danced by Maya Plisetskaya. A short news report shows them in 2009 commenting on this ballet, performed in 1980. Maya Plisetskaya plays the role of Nina Mikhaïlovna Zarechtnaïa, the young actress who tries to make the public understand the modern texts of Treplev. The choice of Rodion Shchedrin is more open to question in view of his very exaggeratedly expressive music. He is part of the modern tradition of random, serial music that is nonetheless rooted in Russian culture. Married to Maya Plisetskaya, he was “fated” to compose the music… Divided in 24 polyphonic preludes, a postlude and three interludes, the work gives off a morbid and tragic atmosphere. It is not the ballet’s high point. In the lineage of Béjart, Maya Plisetskaya is marvelous and the DVD is worth the price for her alone.
