Programme on ne peut plus enthousiasmant que celui proposé ici par le label Praga Digitals. Un enregistrement Martinu de tout premier plan avec au menu, « Le Quintette pour cordes et piano H.229 datant de 1933, page savoureuse en quatre mouvements aux accents jazzy, le Quintette pour cordes et piano H.298 de 1944 que Harry Halbreich qualifie de « sommet de toute la musique de chambre des années américaines, tant par les dimensions, qui rejoignent celles du cinquième quatuor, que par la qualité de son inspiration », et pour finir le quatuor pour cordes et piano H.287 en trois mouvements datant de 1942. Dans une prise de son toujours aussi idéale en pur DSD, offrant aux timbres des instruments en présence un épanouissement indéniable, le Quatuor Kocian et Ivan Klansky au piano délivrent un discours musical à la fois subtil, passionné et fervent, au cœur duquel la profondeur du langage de Martinu semble de plus en plus prégnante, vivante, voire essentielle. Avec un sens inné des couleurs et un équilibre parfait, le Quatuor Kocian rend cette musique indispensable pour un plaisir renouvelé à chaque écoute. A n’en pas douter, l’âme du compositeur tchèque plane sur cet enregistrement incontournable.

Piano Quintets N°1 & 2. Piano Quartet

Here is a most exciting program that the label Praga Digitals proposes. A Martinu recording of the first order with on the menu the Quintet for Strings and Piano H.229, dating from 1933, a delicious work in four movements that has jazzy accents, the Quintet for Strings and Piano H.298, from 1944, that Harry Halbreich qualified as "the summit of all the chamber music from the American years, not only for its dimensions, which compare to the fifth quartet, but also for the quality of its inspiration", and finally the Quartet for Strings and Piano H.287, in three movements, dating from 1942. In a pure DSD recording that is once again perfection, allowing the the instruments' tones to positively flower , the Kocian Quartet and Ivan Klansky on the piano give a musical lesson that is subtle, passionate and fervent, wherein Martinu's depth of language seems more and more pregnant; vibrant, even essential. With an innate sense of color and perfect balance, the Kocian Quartet makes this music indispensable, both enjoyable and new to the ear on each listening. No doubt about it: the Czech composer's soul hovers over this must-have recording.
